HolyChat is an iOS app for daily Christian scripture, prayer, and AI-assisted reflection. Its AI guides are fictional characters. The app is intended for people aged 14 and over. If you are under 18, involve a parent or guardian where their permission is required.
What stays on your device
Your local conversation history, bookmarks, optional first name, age range, faith background, appearance, and reminder preferences are stored on your device. Prayer completion and daily-content preferences are shared with the HolyChat widget through an Apple App Group. Personal conversations are never displayed in widgets. Device backups may include app data according to your Apple settings.
What AI chat sends
When you send a chat message, Firebase processes your message, a bounded portion of recent conversation, your chosen AI guide, your age range, faith background, and any selected scripture. OpenAI receives that information to generate a reply. Your optional first name is not sent. Avoid sharing information you do not want processed by these providers. Daily content, bookmarks, and widgets work without sending an AI chat request.
OpenAI requests use store: false. This does not promise zero provider retention: providers may retain data under their security, abuse-monitoring, and legal policies. See OpenAI’s privacy policy and Google Cloud’s privacy notice.
Anonymous identity, limits, and retry records
Firebase Anonymous Authentication assigns an identifier to protect access and count daily replies. Firebase App Check uses Apple App Attest to help prevent unauthorized requests. Our backend keeps per-identifier quota records and request IDs. Completed AI replies are temporarily cached for retry protection, expire after 24 hours, and are then removed by an automatic database cleanup process; physical deletion can occur later. Raw user messages and conversation history are not saved in this backend database or application logs. Quota records expire after two days. Aggregate daily service-cost totals do not contain chat text or user identifiers.
Purchases and diagnostics
Apple processes purchases. Adapty receives the anonymous identifier and subscription, transaction, and device information needed to validate and restore membership. We do not receive your payment-card details. Advertising identifier and IP-address collection by the Adapty SDK are disabled. Firebase Crashlytics collects crash diagnostics in release builds. We do not add chat text, your name, or faith preferences to crash reports. No advertising tracking or Firebase Analytics SDK is enabled in the native app.
Reminders and widgets
Reminders use local notifications after you grant permission. The schedule stays on your device. Widgets use bundled daily content and make no AI requests. iOS controls widget refresh timing. You can disable notifications in iOS Settings.
Deletion and your choices
In HolyChat, open You → Delete my data to delete local history, bookmarks, preferences, the Firebase anonymous account, and server chat retry and quota records. A deletion marker may remain for 24 hours to prevent requests already in progress from recreating records. Third-party transaction records may need to be retained for billing, fraud prevention, or legal obligations. Deleting app data does not cancel an Apple subscription; manage it in App Store subscription settings.
You can request access, correction, deletion, or other applicable privacy rights at oneholychat@gmail.com. We may need information to identify the relevant records. We cannot recover local chats once deleted.
Processing and changes
Data is processed to provide requested app features, protect the service, and manage subscriptions. Providers may process data in other countries. Privacy rights depend on your location.
